One Issue... 26 covers... AGAIN!? DO NOT MISS THIS SINGLES FOC!
TABLE OF CONTENTS

Ufff.

All major news outlets are reporting a rough week for relationships everywhere. They quote a “crossover cover overspending crisis” as the culprit.

(Do not mention to non-comic partners that everything inside is the same. That is single-issue addict rule number one.)

Well, who cares?
Superman and Spider-Man are gonna have a Modern Age crossover only once!

Right? Uhhhh, guys, right????
NO!
IT’S A BIRD, IT’S A PLANE, IT’S BUDGET INFLATION ONCE AGAIN.

Last week we got Superman/Spider-Man, and now we get the other side of the crossover in Spider-Man/Superman.

Totally not confusing.

Totally not made for newsletter writers to mildly panic about mixing FOC dates, and doing cover commentary for both books in a 1 a.m. bender like an insane man, then having this ready way before it needed to be.
No. That is fan fiction, guys. C’mon.

Marvel / DC: Spider-Man / Superman #1

What I love about Marvel’s side of the crossover is the reuniting of authors with their creative babies.

Bendis and Pichelli re-team as Miles Morales meets Jon Kent. Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman are god-offing with Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor and Wonder Woman. Stephanie Phillips and Phil Noto are doing Spider-Gwen and Supergirl, while Joe Kelly and Humberto Ramos are going with Not-Spider-Gwen and Lana Lang.

Cue Lizzie McGuire because:

(Still sad that Sara had to cancel our event last Saturday because of health issues, but I also had an emergency and couldn’t come, so I’m not saying I jinxed it, but burn some sage just in case.)

Dan Slott and Marcos Martin are doing Spider-Noir. Unnamed brothers Geoff Johns and Gary Frank take some time off their multi-title blockbuster to pit the super-family against the spider-family. (I would make this just a scripted Family Feud episode with Steve Harvey-Dent hosting.)

And I didn’t even mention the legendary role of Brad Meltzer, Pepe Larraz, LOUISE SIMONSON, Todd Nauck, and freaking Jeph Loeb and Jim Cheung.

I’m having a heart attack!! Is it happiness, or is it little mind-Gloriana killing me for doing name-dropping once again?

I’M DOING COVER COMMENTARY AGAIN TOO. DON’T WORRY.

Everyone should have a cyborg version, that should be the law.

I think Peter should fart just for funnies.

If they scrapped the book and just gave me this one, that would suffice. Cover-Storytelling in the year of our lord 2026!!!!!!!!

Corner-sneak good boy an’ good bacon
I got my Peach’s out in Walt’s (Oh, yeah, shi&&%) I get my weed fro.. (ne-e-ver-mind)

Uhhnn boys can you just move to the side for me real quick. Get a grip.

Saraaaaaaa 😖😖

My hair CANNOT form a M. We balding in our 20s suffer the worst punishment.

I truly resisted just putting every cover here because I know you all are not gonna sleep on Adam Hughes, David Marquez, Gary Frank, Stegman, Capullo, Begley, Sanford Greene, and effing Walt Simonson.

And the incentives are also great. Frank Miller, yeah, why not? Sure, man. Yes, go off. It only happens once (a few times, actually).

(Ever want to break the “please inquire” threshold on Manage Comics? Just do it.)

Mad About DC #1

The other crossover of the week, and what a legendary “other” to have.

Our friend Chip Zdarsky is roasting the DC Universe in Mad style.

Why do I tear up a bit with this week’s releases? God, what a nerd. Sergio Aragonés is writing a story for this, guys!

Mad was practically college for 90% of everyone who writes comedy. All of our mother-dreams, I’m sure.

This seems to be the perfect opportunity for me to tell the story of when the BTP gang (Petar, Daniel, and myself) kind of left Chip Zdarsky eating sushi alone at the Walt’s Warehouse Event afterparty.

We were all scared of bothering him, so we made a circle, talked close to him, and pretended not to stare for 30 minutes like some freaking nerd version of Mean Girls. We bullied Chip Zdarsky, guys!!!

In our defense, I think we were having an anxiety crisis of: “What if Chip talks to us and we don’t have a funny pun???”

Anyway, buy Mad About DC, please!

Check everything out on pre-order here:

Single Issues FOC

Kevin Smith is back to Big Two comics with the miniseries Bizarro: Year None #1 (Kevin would never not have a pun for Chip).

Ghost Machine is releasing The Official Guidebook #1, basically STEALING BEYOND THE PANEL jobs (revenge for Chip!).

The Amazing Spider-Man: Spider-Versity #1 is putting every Spidey-fam member through Osborn bootcamp, including newly introduced Bailey Briggs and Makawalu Akana (I know comic Twitter is mad about Miles being downgraded here, and I don’t disagree, but maybe I’m the problem because I’m not skipping a book with Anya, Cindy, Jessica, and Gwen. Just sue me.)

Our time limit is 4 p.m. on Saturday, so don’t miss it. I always forget to add this warning to the newsletter, a TRULY mad thing because this is basically my only job if you think about it. Email Heiko and he will solve all of your questions, ok? (Does Heiko know what my job is?)

See you,
Math.
