NO TIME FOR INTRODUCTIONS.
Iâm doing TWO cover galleries today, and Gloriana might kill me, so letâs pretend it was a really short and fast newsletter with a very selective number of images, ok?
It just stays between us singleissuers-(eses?).
MARVEL IS PULLING FOR A MIRACLE.
Well, spoilers ahead. But at this point, the cat has been out of the bag and even took a walk around the friendly neighborhood afterward.
David Colton, the character introduced as a new Captain America in Chip Zdarskyâs run, is our new Miracleman. Yes, the property made legendary by Alan Moore has been under the control of the House of Ideas for a while, and the full integration into the Marvel Universe has been teased many times, and here it is.
Chip Zdarsky's first big play for the Marvel Universe has been revealed.
If you donât know Miracleman, first of all, what a rabbit hole you have ahead of you. Originally created as Marvelman in the UK, the character was completely reinvented by Alan Moore in the â80s in a work that can only be described as genius. Neil Gaiman later continued that story, but, justifiably, nothing really came of it.
Avengers: Armageddon #5 is FOCâing this week with the first full-blown main cover with David in the uniform. Not only that, but we have Mark Bagley and John Romita Jr. variants, and for the MCU fans, Leonel Castellani is doing a wraparound tie-in with Marvel Studiosâ Avengers: Doomsday.
So cue the cover gallery, baby.
HOP ON THE BAD IDEA.
Bad Idea is the favorite publisher of the single-issues department right now, and we are not even hiding it (donât tell Walt).
High-level storytelling with creators at their peak, cool premises, and a top-notch cover program that rewards single-issue readers and sellers. And the gimmicks are cool.
This is the perfect week to get into it because we have two new releases hitting FOC.
The Detective #1 is by David and Maria Lapham, who you may know from Stray Bullets and Good as Dead. Itâs a redefined noir that cites Blade Runner, Minority Report, and Fourth World as references. It's a genre, but itâs pushing the boundaries by allowing comics to explore their own potential. So, Bad Idea.
Their Old Masters cover program is also awesome, and itâs paying homage to horror classics, so yeah, you know it, cover montage.
Also this week, Lancer #1, all about a freelancer app for exterminators of big giant wildlife, with covers that reek of Americana vibes. One of the covers is Augmented Reality. What is that??? I have no clue, but it sounds incredible. Yes, Bad Idea, augment my reality all you want.
QUICK BITES.
No One Escapes The Dialectic #1 is a must this week. Written by Pulitzer winner Spencer Ackerman, who you know from Iron Man (writing this sentence gave me an existential pause).
Batman #227, with the iconic Neal Adams cover, and Ultimate Fantastic Four #21, your introduction to the Marvel Zombies universe, are the facsimiles to get this week.
Everything on FOC...
can be found here. Our pre-orders run until Saturday at 4pm. You can email Heiko if you have any questions about Manage Comics or how much we love Bad Idea (unless he is stuck in an alternate zombie world I did not hear about. Never say never at Waltâs).
See you,
Math
