The single issues newsletter is BACK!!
I can’t express how happy I am to be back with you after a few weeks off.
It’s been a really rough beginning of the year, personally, and nothing can fix this as well as some really delicious FOC.
Really, there’s nothing I love more than this little insane weekly diary. I sure hope people are actually reading it and it’s not a San Junipero situation where I’m just talking to myself on a CPU in Sweden.
But honestly, I’m fine either way because this week’s releases are FIRE.
(Do kids still say “fire,” or is this more proof that I was dead all along and this is all AI?)
You guys can clearly see my 2026 is off to a very sane start. Who cares? Let’s just FOC…
And man, Sweden sounds like a cool place anyway.
DC K.O.: Boss Battle #1
I’m honestly still flabbergasted that this is real!
Yeah, you heard it right. Our DC heroes need more Omega energy (God, how I love this cheesiness, sue me!), so they go looking in alternative universes for a boost.
So we get:
- Homelander from The Boys. (Yes, your favorite YouTubers who clearly never read comics and love to make videos out of wiki articles are about to have a field day!)
- Annabelle, the murderous doll from The Conjuring universe. (Still not watching the movies since I found out it’s based on real-life stories. I’m a coward, and just the idea that something MIGHT be real is enough to make me grab my pacifier and call for mommy.)
- Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat. (Is Mortal Kombat also based on real-life stories?)
- Sabrina the Teenage Witch. (As a Nickelodeon-obsessed gay kid, you know this is my jam.)
- Red Sonja and Vampirella. (You’d think they appeal mostly to straight men, but… hot girlies with an attitude are very much a gay thing. Are they the housewives of the comic book industry?)
- And my favorite thing: SAMANTHA THE KILLING BEAR FROM INDIE HIT BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES. (If I could tattoo a company crossover, I would choose this.)
I love that these crossovers are very much made for comic fans and not just headline grabbers. Is asking for a Saga surprise crossover too much? Yeah, I’m a comic fan, I complain with a full belly. Starro vs. the gang from Sex Criminals, when DC???

PRE-ORDER DC K.O.: Boss Battle #1
If you want to continue in the crossover-combat business (is this a thing now?), you can also check out DC x AEW #1 and Archie x Army of Darkness #1.
I’m excited for Cynthia Dann, the editor extraordinaire from Chip Zdarsky’s Public Domain, vs. Grogu. You know it’s coming.
YOUR FAVORITE WHITE MAN IS GETTING A NEW NUMBER ONE!
I complain, but I’ll probably get all of them.
Daredevil #1
Nothing feels as much like the papal announcement of comics as the naming of a new Daredevil writer.
And our new pope is: Stephanie Phillips, with Lee Garbett as artist (what would be the artist equivalent to my writer/pope comparison? Catholic readers, hit me up!!)
Stephanie was a pick nobody was betting on, and that’s what I honestly love about it.
She’s writing a lot of my pulls (Spider-Gwen, Phoenix, and She-Hulk) and I feel like that’s a group our boy Matt would love to hang out with (can I say “manwhore” in the newsletter, Gloriana?).
Daredevil is the most consistent character when it comes to quality books, and Saladin Ahmed’s run was very much a divisive outlier in the end. I’m excited to see where this one will fall.

Cyclops #1
Hot off this insane Avengers: Doomsday trailer shot, it seems it’s a good week to be a Scott-head.
I love me some Cyclops, and it’s insane how few books this guy gets. What was the last one? The Bendis-era space adventure?
Now he’s lost in the wilderness, and I’m putting my money where my mouth is to help my favorite X-Man maybe have a book on the stands forever.
(Oh, to dream the impossible dream…)

Our Others #1's
Punisher #1
Another 2026 MCU star (at this point, who isn’t?) is getting a new #1 with Benjamin Percy and my fellow Brazilian José Luis Soares Pinto.
Definitely picking this up for the Brazilian artist alone! It’s my civic duty. (And Percy is cool too! I kinda dug his Wolverine a lot.)
Wade Wilson: Deadpool #1
Holy cow! Marvel is truly distributing these. And it’s also being written by Percy. My guy is the white man Thanos. Gotta catch them all.
(I feel like Deadpool would like that I’m selling his comic this way.)
*****
But this industry doesn’t live on male heroes alone. We also have kooky little guys.
Star Wars: Jar Jar #1, of all people, is getting a one-shot. I will pick this up unironically.
D’Orc #1 is also on FOC. What a crazy little guy! I love crazy little guys.
Jason Aaron is also rebooting Thundarr the Barbarian for Dynamite. I’m including this in my kooky little guys section, and you can’t stop me.
You can check everything on pre-order here:
All orders run until Saturday 4pm and you can email Heiko if you have any questions. You can also email him to say how we appreciate him dealing with all the publisher ordeals of the last few months. HEIKO WE DON'T BLAME YOU WE BLAME THE GODS.
(I also want to shout out and thank Walt and Gloriana who have been very kind to me in what has been the worst few weeks of my life and say once again how Walt's Comic Shop has the coolest, most awesome people in the business.)
(And thank you for reading the newsletter and ordering like no tomorrow. I appreciate you too.)
See you,
Matheus
