As if climate change wasn’t scary enough IRL

First stop: 2024! That was the year that brought us Into the Unbeing, a horror book that blended more subgenres than your average indie garage band. COSMIC horror, ECO horror, BODY horror, "WTF" horror... Call it what you want and rest assured that this comic is out to terrify the bejesus out of you, and that could be just what your doctor ordered? (Note: if they did, that probably wasn’t an actual doctor.)

In any case, author Zac Thompson and artist Hayden Sherman concocted a mind boggling book that will floor your jaw as it jumps your heartrate. Do you dare pre-order it today??

90s workout goals were something else

Next up, 1995! Coming back for its fourth printing, the X-Men: Age of Apocalypse Omnibus is on the hunt for more 90s kid shelf real estate. This stand-a-lone X-Men epic takes place in an alternate, dystopian universe and is bursting at the seams with the edgy, over-the-top mega-muscular art that defined its era. These may not be the exact same versions of the characters you've come to know and love, but their likeness is... uncanny. 😏

A wise me once said that Age of Apocalypse ran so that Absolute Batman could fly, but whether that’s true or not, this undeniably is a must-have addition to any X-shelf.

Sizzling Spider-Strings, it's the book I've been waiting for!

We may be drowning in Spidersonas back in the future, but here in 1977 Jessica Drew made history as the very first Spider-heroine, both on the page and the small screen. And Miles Morales better remember that she had a Venom Blast first!

Originally planned as a one-off appearance just to lay claim to the name, this omnibus with well over 50 collected issues proves that the Web of Life and Destiny had bigger plans in store for her.

Jessica spinning around to get into costume in her animated series happens to be one of my earliest childhood memories, and I’ve spent literal years begging Marvel for literally ANY Spider-Woman book in oversized hardcover format, so you can bet this is the book I’m ordering today! (Right after this time-travelin' trip concludes.)

Don't be weird

For our final stop we're going all the way back to the radical sixties, a time when comic books fully embraced the silly and the zany, and when ridiculousness was no longer a limiting factor, just a bar to raise with every latest issue.

Haters may be quick to dismiss Silver Age Superman stories because of their overwhelming absurdity, but lovers know that their unpredictability was the root of joy and delight.

These tales are wacky, yes, but hilarious, too, and the writers’ unbridled creativity led to out-there characters like Krypto, Bizarro and Brainiac, whom we wouldn't want to be without today. This book is a true time-capsule, written in brighter days, left for us to discover when we need it the most. Possibly... today?
