DC is killing it and we know it – Single Issues FOC 05.06.2026 - Walt's Comic Shop
TABLE OF CONTENTS

What’s the most subscribed series at Walt's?

Well... it’s Absolute Batman.

But did you know Walt just did a running commentary on our whole subscription chart?

It’s such an interesting read. And as someone who was a customer turned employee, I can tell you all this data was like a chocolate factory for me when I joined. So I’m glad Walt is sharing it with everyone so you guys can nerd out with me.

Perspective is not reality. But sometimes it actually kinda is. DC is killing it and we know it, but there are small movements happening everywhere that can hint at what the future could be. I’ll let Walt tell you.

But I just want to thank you all for making our first big-bet, "If Destruction Be Our Lot," a huge hit. We did interviews, giveaways, and the whole ordeal without ever really knowing if you guys were actually going to react to it. And not only did you react, you blew the numbers out of the water and made it a huge seller.

Thanks, Matthew, for trusting us, and thank you, lovely lovely people.

Let’s do it again, shall we?

Minotaur #1: The Next Big Swing

Ignition Press was betting on creators' passions, and I think it’s about to pay off big.

Simon Spurrier recently finished his weirdly millimetrical stint on Flash, and the whole time I was reading it, I got the feeling he was ahead of his own time and on the verge of something really great.

Then I read the cold opening for this, and it reinforced that there's no better time for a comic author than the immediate moment after leaving a huge dream book.

This follows a photojournalist in a world that just got a glimpse of a technological future that is immediately taken away. But you can’t take back the truth once people have seen it. The "future fights back" with some wonderfully strange events in what the solicits describe as an "X-Files for the forward-looking era."

I think of his Wally West, hunted by his own speed, and the way Spurrier was the first one to truly create a unique voice for his kids as children of the Speed Force where time and space are not limitations, and I cannot wait to see what he does here.

All sort-of big returns.

Vertigo is launching 100 Bullets: The US of Anger #1. Yes, Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso are coming back to their critically acclaimed 100 Bullets universe.

If you, like me, were waiting for an excuse to get into this now-classic saga, there’s no better time than right now. The omnibuses are out of print, but DC released new-edition thick trades that will give you your money’s worth in good comics.

Gambit: Wanted

Chris Claremont is coming back to Gambit with the Wanted miniseries. I know Claremont coming back is not hot news at this point, and I wouldn’t say I love the big evidence this gives of Marvel being stuck in nostalgia circles... but if Claremont wants to write X-Men, you let him write X-Men.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin - Training Day #1

IDW is also plunging into the sweet, cozy waters of nostalgia by giving us one more miniseries in the Last Ronin universe. This takes place between issues #3 and #4 of the original series. Do we have enough material for a Last Ronin omnibus at this point?

Are we done with nostalgia?

No.

The Last Starfighter, of all things, is also getting a new series. Look, all jokes aside in this section, a sequel to a cool '80s movie kind of gets me. You cannot say I’m being tricked because I was not even born in the '80s, so we cannot legally call this mindless childhood nostalgia. We can call it a mindless movie-I-once-watched-on-a-random-Saturday-afternoon-on-Netflix-when-I-was-23 nostalgia.

I’m actually fine with that. Alex Rogan might be a Luke Skywalker knockoff, but I’ll follow him to knockoff hell if I have to.

GODZILLA KILLS YOUR WALLET

I’m in the middle of writing an article on the big guy for our next fanzine, and when I thought I was done, he wanted even more.

He gets the big-finale moment of his adventure in the Marvel Universe with Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse #1 and will also meet new friends in the crossover Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #1.

Why do I have the feeling both of these will eventually become movies we will all watch in 2047, with then-in-their-30s TikTok kids mad that the Sonic Cinematic Universe box office has been slumping lately?

Okay, maybe I'm projecting.

If you are into big monsters devouring the world but not into IP craze, David Dastmalchian (the actor from Ant-Man and Suicide Squad????) is teaming up with Leah Kilpatrick and artist Soo Lee to tell the story of a civilization living as slaves and livestock to monsters in Kingdom of Earth #1.

David has been a solid writer for a while now, and it makes me feel bad that I do the joke of calling him the actor from Ant-Man every time, so from this time on, I will only do it as "the writer who is also in Ant-Man?????"

You can check out everything on FOC here. Pre-orders run until Saturday at 4 PM. Heiko will also help you with any questions you have on ordering, managing comics, or single issues in general, so email him.

This week only, he will also explain to you the plot of Last Starfighter scene by scene.

THIS WEEK ONLY, OK???

He’s watched so many hours of the movie on repeat to prepare, and we cannot legally make him do it anymore.

See you...
