The World is Watching

World Cup Summer is here, and the chaos has already begun. Mexico and South Africa kicked things off at the Azteca, football’s cathedral, while Mexican and Korean fans turned Guadalajara into a “Gangnam Style” street party.

Can Messi defend his crown? Can France reach a third straight final? And, of course, is it finally coming home?

But in the middle of all this World Cup madness, let this newsletter be a reminder not to forget your OGs; the stuff you’ll regret missing out on once the football fever is over. After all, the World Cup only lasts a month. But Omnis are forever!

Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 2

Ultimate Spider-Man was a turning point for the character and Marvel Comics, much like Absolute Batman was for DC. Released when Marvel needed revitalization, it captured both new and longtime readers by modernizing Spider-Man while honoring his roots.

Brian Michael Bendis’s distinctive writing, sharp dialogue and masterful pacing, redefined superhero storytelling and influenced titles across the industry, including Avengers. His impact is still felt today. Ultimate Spider-Man remains a bestseller because it’s both an ideal entry point for new readers and a satisfying experience for fans. It’s Spider-Man at his best: fresh, relevant, and endlessly re-readable.

The Deviant Deluxe Edition

I first read The Deviant’s debut in late 2023, fresh off James Tynion IV’s The Nice House on the Lake, and knew I couldn’t miss it. Tynion’s “Tiny Onion” brand has since skyrocketed, with him launching hit after hit and redefining the American comics scene.

But The Deviant stands out as a deeply personal, gimmick-free story: Tynion at his horror best, complemented by Joshua Hixson’s atmospheric art. Its chilling serial killer mystery and sustained mood showcase why Tynion is so acclaimed. The oversized Deluxe Edition is the ultimate way to read it.

Minor Arcana Book One Deluxe Edition

I haven’t read this book yet, so I can’t reveal secrets beyond the official synopsis, but my excitement is genuine. Jeff Lemire, like Tynion, is a tireless creator, but where Tynion builds a brand, Lemire pours himself directly into his stories, free of corporate polish. His work consistently delivers raw, human emotion through characters who feel real, even in fantastical settings like Sweet Tooth or Descender.

Lemire’s personal touch makes each story resonate deeply. Early reviews for this hardcover and its protagonist, Theresa, are stellar. For me, pre-ordering is a no-brainer, Lemire’s storytelling always promises something memorable.
