No DC Books?! But Star Wars And Transformers Said Hi Within This Week's FOC!

No DC Books?! 😱 + Reliving 80s Transformers Trauma 🤖

Spring is here, and you know what that means: It’s time for romance! Love is in the air… or maybe that’s just the dust from my ever-growing “to-read” pile. And while Valentine’s Day is looong behind us, there are still things you can get your significant other for their birthday (and wouldn’t you know, my birthday is this week. Weird, right?)

By the time you are reading this, I will be feasting on the cake and allergy meds. And opening presents with comics (hopefully… hint hint for my friends who read this although it might be too late). So, I will not drag it on, and we can just dive into what you can get me… I mean yourself from this FOC week!

DC Comics: The Sound of Silence

Let’s start with a massive shocker: DC Comics has no book on FOC this week. No cool new omins. No trades. Zilch. Although, I will say this – I highly encourage you to check out the new #1s coming out in the upcoming weeks/months. By this time, Lobo #1 and Batwoman #1 are already out by killer teams, so make sure you grab them!

Other than that, you can let your wallet rest when it comes to DC… at least until the next crisis event sneaks up on us and ruins everything all over again.

Star Wars: Poe Dameron Omnibus

Somehow, this omnibus came out… Just messing, I love Charles Soule’s writing, and Phil Noto on art is always a treat as well! This book gives you a complete backstory on Poe, leading right into The Force Awakens. And as someone who was very charmed by Oscar Isaac’s portrayal… well this book is just for me!

Poe and Black Squadron are sent on covert missions by General Leia. Soule handles not only Poe and the Squadron, but Leia too as well! The sequel trilogy hasn’t had too much love in other forms, and this series was a pleasure reading as it was coming out.

And if that’s not enough to convince you, then Phil Noto’s art should. Honestly, just the art can be reason enough to grab this – it’s as lush and poppy as always, and his painterly touches elevate everything further.

Transformers The Movie: Deluxe Edition

So… The Transformers: The Movie came out 40 years ago. Four. Zero. I’ll let that sink in. I haven’t been alive at that time and only saw it years later but… how does that make you feel?

If you still love the franchise, then this book is for you. Or, if you’re a newcomer from Image’s series, this might be an interesting artefact to discover. The book is a celebration of the iconic film which traumatized generations of kids, collecting both Marvel’s and IDW’s adaptations.

There’s work from legendary creators like Ralph Macchio and Bob Budiansky, and cover art by the legendary Sean Murphy. This nostalgia trip will make you relive the heart thumping battle and the heart-breaking finale… and is a perfect birthday gift for any Transformers fan! 😉

Honorable Mentions: The “Take My Money” Tier

Die: Loaded Vol. 1:

Die was the first book I ever bought from Walt’s after moving to Germany (along Hickman’s FF). I read it digitally as it was coming out, and upon arriving in that little store (while it still existed 😢), I immediately said “Do you have DIE by Gillen and Hans?” In this book, they return to their deadly RPG, and it’s as glorious as the original series was!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Ongoing Compendium Vol. 1:

If you somehow missed the fantastic IDW run on TMNT, both in hardcover and softcover, then this is your chance. If I didn’t already have them all, I would be grabbing this 50-issue tome for extra cheap. Maybe I do it for some friends, they need to read the run too. And so do you!

FML:

My friend gave me the first issue and said “you gotta read this” and they were 100% right. It’s a lovely little coming-of-age apocalyptic story by Kelly Sue DeConnick. There’s an overwork mom, a metal-obsessed teen, a pandemic and witchcraft and it’s all very vibrant and fun and twisted. I haven’t seen too many people talk about it, and they should because it’s great!
