Once Upon a Time… Byrne – Wonder Woman by John Byrnezilla!

This is a book I’ve been waiting on for ages. Byrne is the creator who took me by the hand and made me fall in love with superheroes. The first time I read his work, I approached it with skepticism – and he hit back with sharp writing that won me over completely.

In his run on Diana, Byrne redefined the role of the Amazon warrior, lifting her back to the top of the DC Universe’s power hierarchy. And it’s not just Diana – the supporting cast makes every page of this run worth reading.

If you loved Perez’s WW and you’re looking for someone who really shakes things up – Byrne is your guy.

Mutant Generation – House of X / Powers of X

Say what you will, but to me, this is the most iconic X-Men story since Claremont – maybe because it’s the one that truly made me fall for the mutants. But also because of the huge impact it had on both long-time fans and new readers alike.

It’s Hickman at full power: two series that merge into one, with storytelling worthy of the best sci-fi novels and the visual energy of a blockbuster movie, thanks to Pepe Larraz’s divine artwork.

If this book isn’t on your shelf yet… can you even call yourself an X-Men fan?

The First Comic I Ever Sold – Everything Sucks: Kings of Nothing

Michael taught me how to use the register at our Brick & Mortar store and had me practice by ringing up one of his purchases – the first issue of Everything Sucks. That book made its way to my house too, along with the rest of the series, reminding me why I love comics.

In this series, Michael Sweater packs in everything I adore about the medium: it's funny, irreverent, and scrappy – just like I was on those days when I’d open a comic, shut the world out, and ignore all responsibilities and anxieties.

This new volume is loaded with extras, including an unpublished story, and it's going straight into my collection the moment it lands. Don’t miss your chance to pre-order one of the remaining copies!

My Hidden Gem: Doll Parts: A Lovesick Tale – by Luana Vecchio

Can we even call it a “hidden gem” when we’re talking about Luana Vecchio?

Her debut Image series Lovesick was a hit and continues to fly off the shelves, pushing my fellow Italian right into the spotlight as one of comics’ rising stars. With *Doll Parts*, Vecchio expands that same universe, this time focusing on Madeleine – the lead character in this four-part tale.

Her stories have the allure of big cats: beautiful to look at, and stirring up that deep, primal fear in your gut – that delicious thrill of danger. Fear can be incredibly sexy.

This series is perfect for fans of Lovesick, but also a great entry point for new readers. (And for those of you waiting for Doll Parts, don’t forget – we still have some exclusive signed bookmarks from Vecchio available at Walt’s Comic Shop!)
