Omar’s Take

1. A Must-Have for X-Men Fans Looking to Fill the Gaps
Omar points out that this era of X-Men wasn’t always easy to track down in collected form—and that Marvel originally didn’t plan to make this a standalone omnibus. Thanks to fan feedback, they packed everything in.

“This I originally announced as a one-and-done omnibus that would also include the Trial of Gambit and other stories—but because of a certain channel, because of certain viewers that kept finding things to add, Marvel decided to split it into two books. So it doesn’t leave anything out. Everything is in here.”

2. Character Moments That Hit Hard
Omar puts strong emphasis on the emotional core of the book: the quiet but powerful character moments that ripple out of the Onslaught fallout.

“This is a really beautiful issue that focuses on the relationship between Iceman and his father. In previous issues we saw their relationship wasn’t the best, and Rogue even confronts his father about being a bigot… But now Bobby sees him trying to protect him. He kind of sees him as a hero.”
“It’s the story of Joseph trying to find out who he is. Is he really the master of magnetism? The leader of the Acolytes? There’s this power struggle between him and Fabian Cortez while Exodus just knows that he is Magneto.”
“Bishop is still trying to adapt to this new era after the revelation of who Onslaught was. He feels like he failed his whole purpose.”

3. Extras and Art That Go Beyond the Norm
Beyond the story, Omar is clearly delighted by the extras and visual presentation. He calls out the inclusion of X-Men Magazine content between issues and gives special praise to early Jim Cheung and Joe Madureira art.

“In between pages, you have all these extras from X-Men Magazine. Not every issue, but a lot of them. That was something I didn’t pick up on when I read these back in the day.”
“I love Jim Cheung now, but this era—this is my kind of Jim Cheung. It’s simple, it’s got this anime flair to it. I really enjoyed this stuff.”
“Look at those thick inks from Joe Mad… I love that everything is in here.”
