3 + 3 Highlights from this Week's FOC
WHAT'S FOC'ING THIS WEEK?
Hello dear comic readers, my name is Tomás and I’m for the first time joining Walt’s Newsletter-Team to let you know all about the biggest releases on FOC this week!
Batman R.I.P. Absolute Edition
I’ll admit it, my expectations were way too high going into Grant Morrison’s epic Batman saga. The first chapter, The Black Glove, is a fun, action-packed start that carefully sets the stage for everything to come, but it never quite hooked me.
Then came the followup, Batman: RIP, and suddenly everything clicked. With Morrison and artist Tony S. Daniel firing on all cylinders, we watch the Batman lose his grip on reality in a way we’ve never seen before. Vulnerable, fragile, and raw, the Dark Knight is pushed to his breaking point as his mind and spirit are dismantled piece by piece. From the surreal arrival of the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh and wild, unpredictable twists that all hit their mark, this is Morrison at full power.
The upcoming Absolute Batman: RIP edition collects it all in an oversized, gorgeous format worthy of this modern classic.
I’ve been called out at work for my inflationary use of the word “masterpiece,” especially when it comes to Marvel™ and DC™ books. So, I’m sorry, Simone, but it’s happening again. Batman: RIP is a masterpiece.

Something Is Killing the Children Omnibus Vol. 1
If you’ve been waiting for the perfect place to dive into Something is Killing the Children, this is it. James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s modern horror hit has grown into a full-blown universe since it began in 2020, with several spin-offs and an ever-growing mythology.
Now at 44 issues and freshly announced at SDCC to be running for at least 100, it can be hard to know where to start. This new compendium makes it easy, collecting the first 20 issues of the main series. The first issue is one of the strongest starts to a horror comic in years, and speaking from my own experience, it’s one of those books that’s just hard to put down. You’ll be itching to see how this horror saga plays out.
With the Compendium, you can binge the entire “Archer’s Peak” saga and discover for yourself: what is killing the children? You certainly won’t regret it!

SPECTATORS
From Brian K. Vaughan, who you probably know as the writer of Saga, Y: The Last Man, and Paper Girls, comes his first original graphic novel in years, Spectators. The story, created with Niko Henrichon, who also collaborated with Vaughan on Pride of Baghdad, is set hundreds of years in the future and follows two lonely ghosts who witness what might be the end of the world.
It’s a catchy premise that I’m for one very excited to see play out across it’s 300+ pages. It’s thrilling to have one of the biggest names in the DM return in such a big way and I can’t wait to see how this ambitious story comes together. For me, it’s a must-read, and the possibility of it reaching masterpiece status is absolutely there (this matter will be further discussed after release with Simone).

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
Assorted Crisis Events TP Vol 1
Quite possibly the craziest, bleakest series on the stands right now! Every issue is a selfcontained story set in a world that writer Deniz Camp describes as “like Crisis on Infinite Earths if it was happening to normal, everyday people, or Black Mirror if the fabric of space and time were breaking down.” Eric Zawadzki’s art is astounding, perfectly paired with Jordie Bellaire’s colors. It’s one of the few DM-series pushing the boundaries of the format on a monthly-basis.

Jonah Hex: All-Star Western Omnibus HC
Cue Ennio Morricone. I don’t know much about Jonah Hex, but my love for the Western genre has catapulted this to the top of my to-read list. Even the synopsis is out of this world: “Jonah Hex and Amadeus Arkham team up in an expansive collection of Old Westversion stories in Gotham City. Even when Gotham City was just a one-horse town, crime was rampant—and things only get worse when bounty hunter Jonah Hex comes to town. Can Amadeus Arkham, a pioneer in criminal psychology, enlist Hex's special brand of justice to help the Gotham Police Department track down the latest villains?”
My wallet says I shouldn’t, but this is too hard to resist!
