Get Ready for Our First Absolute Exclusive Cover! - Walt's Comic Shop
TABLE OF CONTENTS

BIG NAMES WITH BIG BETS.

I'm honestly so excited for this week.

I’m basically going around the office yelling, “GUYS, THIS IS A BIG DEAL FOR ME!!”

And everyone is only kind of ignoring me behind their omnibuses. But that’s ok. I have the single issues F.O.C. gang.

The thing that makes it even better, and I really didn’t realise it until writing this, is that it is a big week, yes. And the major releases are INDIE ORIGINAL IDEAS.

Oh yes. Isn’t that cool??

We can launch our own blockbusters and it contains zero already established IP.

Hollywood is crying in a ditch right now.
Let’s go right into it.

ROBERT KIRKMAN HAS A NEW BOOK OUT!

Is Terminal #1 the next big hit?

I’m betting all my Pokémon cards on it (and you know those are booming right now).

Robert Kirkman, creator of the Invincible Universe, the Energon Universe, and The Walking Dead Universe, wants to add one more universe to this already univer-filled phrase.

This is a brand new superhero franchise, and you can get behind it from the get-go. This is truly Invincible by way of Harbinger.

The first two issues are filled with surprises and his iconic action. I got the feeling Kirkman was basically channeling the Image founders in the 90s and applying it to his trademark pacing. He basically incorporates Jim Lee’s WildC.A.T.s energy.

He is co-writing with Joe Casey, who just rocked the industry with a very successful Ben 10 run, and he is incorporating… himself writing WildC.A.T.s. Yes, it’s a WildC.A.T.s incorporation festival here. Maybe we should all live by this creed.

Andy Kubert is doing the art. You see what I mean by 90s iconography??? Can they do it? Can they bring back the 90s?

I was only a baby. Will this automatically make me a baby? Stay tuned.

In case it is a hit, did you know we can grade comics for you?? Some of those Issue #1 A covers will probably be a big deal. (Help me win this bet with Heiko please).

GEOFF JOHNS HAS A NEW BOOK OUT!

I love The Trillion Dollar Kid #1

Hailing from Ghost Machine, more specifically their all-ages Family Odysseys line.

What is Ghost Machine? I wrote a whole article about it.

I would describe Family Odysseys as modern versions of Silver Age comics. Bringing all the science and wonder of Lee and Kirby’s Fantastic Four with contemporary jokes and feelings.

A blast that always felt tailor-made for people who just love reading comics sitting on the floor. (I don’t sit on the floor, ok, but you get what I’m going for).

The comic tells the story of this trillionaire kid who basically dedicates all his money to making the world better and fun, including lemonade fountains and institutionalized sliding to school.

It’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory meets Richie Rich.

But all the inventiveness that makes your eyes glow will also make them watery when you realise how goddamn lonely this kid is. Heartfelt it’s just the beginning of this amazing new series.

It’s tying in with the two other series from the line Rocketfellers (about a time-displaced futuristic family being stranded in our present) and Hornsby & Halo (about heaven and hell spawns basically being swapped at maternity).

It’s all part of the first event of the publishing line called Who Are the Unbelievables? It prologues in the special Issue #0 of the two original series. The concept behind the Unbelievables is very fun and very clever.

BUT you can ignore all that noise and simply enjoy this series. It will surprise you. Truly the first Odyssey title to truly hit its potential right out of the gate.

Gotta hand it to this kid, because if I had a trillion when I was young I would just probably buy every Spider-Man action figure available and finance a live-action Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.

SUPERGIRL MOVIE PREP TIME.

The stars of this summer’s long-awaited DC Studios blockbuster are getting special releases.

The classic Keith Giffen and Alan Grant Lobo #1 is getting a facsimile edition. Gotta say, I always declared myself a Lobo-hater, but Skottie Young’s new series shut me up and this classic material kind of kicked me in the you-know-where. I’m sorry to say, Lobo kind of slaps. I’m sorry, I’m sorry. They got me.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1, the absolute classic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, that I described on Beyond The Panels with:

“Bilquis Evely and Matheus Lopes create artwork that feels musical. Blowing winds and dead stars take on color and shape. The visuals turn Kara’s pain into poetry. It looks as epic as it reads.”

This DC W.I.P. edition presents the ORIGINAL ART by the absolute genius Bilquis Evely. Breathtaking. An incredible way to rediscover this story in black and white pencils glory. Simply a must-have in any format.
