Original Graphic Novels

OK, so this is the Original Graphic Novels collection. Which, to be honest, is basically an automated (because we have to be efficient - not lazy, never! - sometimes!!) collection of publishers known for putting out great OGNs.

But what are OGNs, anyway? Well, the “original” part means not previously published in a periodical format — no single issues, no anthology magazines. Which would technically exclude Watchmen, Maus, Black Hole, and most early graphic novels by Daniel Clowes, Chester Brown, Seth, and so on.

And still: we believe it makes sense to list these publishers separately (even though some of them have gone back to releasing single issues again). Why? Because they speak to a different audience — one that leans more toward the literary and experimental side of comics.

But in the end, never forget: graphic novels are comics.
