Hello there, dear people! I hope you’re handling this heat well! I know I am not, but I’ve always got a book on hand to use as a fan between reading it… Luckily, I bring along some cool stuff for you to help.
First cool thing is a quick reminder that you can now make multiple wishlists! This should reduce the sweating and stress about what you need to order (by ignoring just how many titles there are and just focusing on smaller, more consumable lists – it helps, trust me).
The second cool thing you should totally look into is our Beyond the Panels Blog! We have some very smart takes and wonderful people writing (and I also contribute too!) – it’s definitely worth checking out if you want to grab a new read for your favorite (or less known) characters or from your favorite creators. And who knows, you might even learn an interesting new fact you didn’t know!
And with the advertisement part of the program out of the way, let’s dig into the cool titles on FOC this week!

The beloved Superman stories of the ‘90s return in its second massive omnibus collection, including the game-changing story “Death of Superman”! The 1990s saw a new wave of creative vitality and fan interest in comics’ original superhero, with four tightly… read more
I did not know much about the triangle era before the first omni came out. I especially had no clue why it was called the “triangle” era, when the thing on Superman’s chest isn’t even a triangle! For those still uninformed, the era is called this way due to there being four Superman titles at the time – Superman, Adventures of Superman, Action Comics and Superman: The Man of Steel. They all mixed and matched, and stories from one would flow into another – with a little triangle on the cover signifying which part of the story you have in your hands.
And if four titles working together towards a bigger narrative give you PTSD from Spider-Man’s Clone Saga, worry not! This era of Superman was actually really good, and the teams gelled well together. There’s also a lot of nostalgia for this era – this was a lot of people’s Superman growing up!
And yes, as you might have noticed, this book does share an overlap with the Death & Return of Superman Omnibus. This book will be ending with the Death event, with the assumption of Return being covered in a future Volume 3 in a more comprehensive manner – since this does collect A LOT of stuff. It is a very fun trip into the past and I am excited to continue taking it!
Deadpool & X-Force Omnibus
It seems that this is the FOC week of sequels, since another omnibus hitting FOC date is weirdly named Deadpool & X-Force omni. In reality, this is basically volume 2 of the X-Force Omnibus, continuing the story from issue #19 of the title (#16-#18 were a part of the X-Cutioner's Song storyline). There were a few Cable and Deadpool issues thrown in there for good measure as well, and Deadpool’s name was placed on the cover (fun fact, the third volume of X-Force is called Cable and X-Force, making it even more confusing to put on the shelf).
This book isn’t in print for the first time – it was originally printed all the way back in 2017. This is why it’s very exciting to have it back in stock, since finding copies in the wild is HARD. As far as the story goes – I do want to point out that Deadpool is in just parts of this book (so you don’t build your expectations up due to the top billing!)
The creative team for the book is killer (pun intended) – Fabian Nicieza and Mark Waid are amazing storytellers, and Greg Capullo, Ian Churchill and Joe Madureira are all crazy talented artists. The stories here are a classic 90’s action romp – there are great moments for Sam, Siryn and Cable, some never-ending battles and early Deadpool stories! It’s a pretty solid book and should be on your shelf if you’re an X-Force fan!

House of Slaughter Book One
Personally, this is my most-anticipated release this week. I love love LOVE Something is Killing the Children (it’s one of the best modern comic books PERIOD), and this supplemental material expands the world of SIKTC and blows the door wide open.
This book collects The Butcher’s Trilogy, which is a three-part saga of Jace Butcher, the last survivor of the House Boucher. He is on a revenge quest after his house was decimated, and will cross path with Aaron Slaughter – Erica’s brother. The book gives a great insight into the world, the inner workings of different houses and the House of Slaughter itself (if you ever wanted more stories about the differently colored masks, this is the place for you), and it’s also a cute love story.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s fun, action-packed and tragic all at the same time. Chris Shehan does a great job on the art in the first act, making it similar to Werther Dell’Edera’s while keeping it distinct and his own too. Antonio Fuso joins in the second act, giving it a fun and more grounded spin. Miguel Muerto comes back from the main series to color all the issues and gives it that fantastic *oomph*.
Now all we need to do is wait for the rest to be collected to… and for Tynion to get back to writing the main title more regularly… Please?
