Overbite Thor! Gotham's Williamsburg! A Stopped Clock Was Right Twice a Day but Not Since DKR1!
The trees outside my window have officially called it: Welcome to autumn, everyone! Go easy consuming the terrible seasonal products, okay? We need you to make it to spring.
If you must binge, well, here you go: Your Final Order Cut-off comics for September 16, 2026. Before you get the zoomies, let me direct your attention to a few choice cuts.
First up, my personal recommendation. In Europe, this beauty is only available from good 'ol Walt's 💅:
Yes, this is a tiny little screencap in an email. But I'm telling you, the scale in this art is incredible.
Beta Ray Bill By Daniel Warren Johnson Artist's Edition HC Near Mint Condition Exclusive
Every panel of Daniel Warren Johnson's Beta Ray Bill is high-impact, crammed with detail, heart, and physicality. You feel Bill's bones and heart crack. Some of this is the writing, which is direct, spare, and tender.
A ton of it is the kineticism and exquisite detail of the art, which sucks you right in. This Artist's Edition gets up close and personal with that: ink gradients, blue pencil, and all the little details of Johnson's process, the same size as drawn. There's even an intro from Mr. Thor himself, Walt Simonson. If I could only order one thing this week, this'd be the one.
Here's Omar from Near Mint Condition talking about it.
By the way: Does DWJ's art remind anyone else of Paul Pope's? They both scratch a real similar itch in my mind...
Anyhoo! That's one for the art nerds. How about the fabulous panel-by-panel storytelling of the late '70s?

Don't let the nutty villains and the crazy crossovers fool you: Batman's all about routine: Training. Patrolling. A very busy brooding schedule. Every night, he faces the worst of Gotham, gets stitched up, rinse and repeat. So of course he keeps returning to the place it all began: Crime Alley.
This DC Finest fuses a lot of disparate elements around this sad ritual: noir, gothic horror, and pit-of-the-stomach human drama, to name a few. So soak in the seedy atmosphere and enjoy the cast of creepy criminals, along with the very first appearance of Mr. Lucius Fox.
Collects Batman #307-324; Detective Comics #482-490; DC Special Series #21; and The Brave and the Bold #159.

We might not want to sit next to racist Uncle Frank at Thanksgiving, but let's be honest, we definitely want to read the masterworks he was producing in his prime. Here we are at the end of his famous Daredevil run, where he just casually invents most of the stuff that defines the character today. His history with Stick. His relationships with Elektra, Bullseye, Foggy, and the Kingpin. And it's no exaggeration to say that the climax to this absolute opera is a panel that hits so hard we're still talking about it today. (It's not the one below.)
Collects Daredevil (1964) #177-193; material from Marvel Fanfare (1982) #1, What If? (1977) #35. Written by Frank Miller with Alan Brennert, Larry Hama, and Roger McKenzie. Penciled by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson with Paul Smith.

Wide-open spaces, claustrophobia, life and death. This second Western volume of DC Finest takes us to a spare, spooky Wild West, and there's a whole lotta killin' and problem drinkin'. A world of desperate people: The perfect place for the bounty hunter Jonah Hex. This is one for the classic comics heads. Jonah walks in a world of classic frontier scenarios and conflicts, nary a crossover event or meta-commentary in sight. And it's a fascinating peek at one mythologized, bygone era (Bronze Age comics) depicting another (the Wild West).
Collects Weird Western Tales #18-43, Jonah Hex #1-7, and a never-before-reprinted Jonah Hex parody story from The Amazing World of DC Comics #13.
