Dear Single Issue (Blind Bag!) Enthusiasts,
I technically have the best excuse not to write a newsletter today (you know… that one day of the year).
But my duty alarm won’t shut up—and truth be told, I don’t hate writing these anyway. So: win win.
Anyway: blind bags.
The Monster & The Wolf #1 vs DC KO #1
How is it that an indie comics entrepreneur—and possibly the hottest cover artist right now—can price his blind bag at $5.99, while DC has to charge $9.99 for basically the same concept?
Well… it’s 48 vs 32 pages. Plus DC’s got shiny covers. And Batman. And... honestly, I don’t know either.
But one thing’s clear: DC KO looks like it’s going to be a wildly fun romp. And The Monster & The Wolf, Mark Spears’ prequel to Monsters, is definitely worth a curious peek, all bling bag craze aside.
That said, if you are here for the rare cover hunt: we got you. Bundle deals for both are now live in our webshop. Happy hunting.
(DC KO blind bag is foc'ing early this weekend, the other covers later on!)
More Cool Stuff On FOC!
YES!!! Erik Larsen is back on Spidey!! Let me rephrase: Erik Larsen is back on writing Spider-Man. The noir one. Still quite exciting, imho, just in time for his small-screen moment. It’s the 1930s, Peter’s a hard-boiled PI, and Gwen Stacy just walked into his office with a murder case that could break everything...
From Erik Larsen to Leif Erikson (norse guy who sailed to America, possibly!). Look, ever since Brian Wood's Northlanders and Black Road I have soft spot for Vikings in comics. So this one is right up my alley: Set 20 years after Leif Erikson's expedition, a brutal horror-fantasy follows a new band of settlers as they face off against something very unnatural in the forests of Vinland. Also, werewolves might be involved. Sold! (to me, at least)
This purple guy is still massively popular, especially in Skandinavia! (See how smooth I nagivate this?). One of the very first costumed heroes returns in a new series by Ray Fawkes and Russell Olson. When smugglers threaten the peace in Bangalla, the Phantom steps out of the shadows once more, ready to protect the Bandar and bring justice with fists, smarts, and style... If you need some puply energy in your life, Mad Cave has you covered with:
Also: Zatanna (not so smooth, sorry.)
She's one of the most best-selling DC characters for us. Because fishnets? Not the worst reason... But also not the only one. She's just a character who is pupular with great writers and creators, and that helps with producing good books. Case in point... DC kicks off spooky season with a full-on Halloween anthology, led by Zatanna and packed with ghosts, demons, and weird magic mishaps. Featuring creepy tales starring Batman, Swamp Thing, Raven, The Demon, and even Ambush Bug. With a killer lineup of creators (including Daniel Warren Johnson, Andrew MacLean, and Riley Rossmo), this one’s more treat than trick. 🕷️🎩✨
LIKE ALWAYS: there is so MUCH MORE... but see for yourself!
Please check out this week's FOC collection and maybe you'll discover something I have entirely missed.
I will leave you with my fav cover of this FOC. Just love those Muppet variants!
Enjoy your day. I know I’ll enjoy mine!
Cheers,
