Guys, I think I’m having a heart attack.
No, seriously.
We just got the coolest confirmation ever for something we’ve got cooking and I am TREMBLING with excitement and nerves. Like, full-body shake. You are not ready for what’s coming. Trust me, some of the stuff in the pipeline here at Walt’s? You’re gonna flip.
So yeah, while I try to calm down (currently stress-drinking some Coke - they call it Cola here in Europe, which still blows my mind for some reason), I figured: what better way to soothe the nerves than... yup, you guessed it...
UPDATING THE WISHLIST.
July’s basically “Unbearable Heat: The Month” here in Germany, but it’s also that sweet spot where new catalog announcements start trickling in. Omar over at Near Mint Condition already kicked things off, so the hype machine is on.
But until we get more of those juicy solicits, let’s focus on the present FOC (Final Order Cutoff) week. That means this is your last chance to preorder certain titles at the best price before they lock in. No pressure, but also: pressure.

GAP FILLERS GALORE.
This was my #1 omnibus pick last year, and I can’t believe we’re finally close to holding it in our trembling little hands.
Okay… so Geoff Johns, the same guy who helped define modern DC with Green Lantern, The Flash, JSA, and Aquaman, wrote Avengers for a solid chunk of time... and no one talks about it?? That’s criminal. What’s even more criminal is that it took this long to get an oversized hardcover. But now? Justice is served. Delicious, oversized justice.
This omnibus fills a huge hole in the shelf. It fits between the two Busiek & Pérez omnibuses (which I’m currently reading and which are slowly becoming my favorite Avengers run ever) and the Avengers Disassembled era that launched Bendis’s wild decade on the title (New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Dark Avengers, yes please). Another era that I love and will defend it with my life.
So naturally - what better to slap between those two delicious buns than a Geoff Johns sausage?
(And if Gloriana and Walt actually let this joke get through triage, I don’t know whether to feel pride or deep shame - for me, and for them.)
Anyway.
Now comes the real Sophie's Choice: Do you go with the David Finch regular cover or the Jim Cheung Direct Market Variant. Honestly? I can’t decide. So I’ve resorted to quietly convincing everyone at the Walt’s warehouse to “accidentally” drop whichever one I don’t pick, so I can scoop it up in a Nick & Dent sale.
Yeah... between the sausage joke and the insurance scam, this is probably the week I finally get fired.
But hey. I’ll be unemployed and holding a Geoff Johns Avengers Omnibus.
So it all balances out. 💅
The Authority Omnibus Vol. 2 HC
Sometimes, things are just meant to be.
We’re prepping a piece on the Superman movie characters for you lovely folks, and Petar, being the kind soul he is, offered to tackle The Engineer, since The Authority is a big, shameful, gaping hole in my comics history. That was... until I checked the FOC list this week.
And guess what’s staring me down? Yeah. The Authority Book Two Omnibus.
Seems like someone up there (Weatherman?) really wants me to catch up. So, channeling my inner Morty…
I tore through Volume One like I’d never read a comic before. And there is nothing better than when people tell you a book is great, and then it actually is great, and you get to join the hive mind. Revolutionary stuff by Warren Ellis, Bryan Hitch (and yes, Mark Millar).
Now, full disclosure, I’m the guy who usually rolls his eyes at early-2000s "edgy" comics. I haven’t enjoyed a Mark Millar comic since I was losing baby teeth. But this is just gold and it holds up way better than I expected. If you were into the original Ultimates, this will feel like the godparent of that whole vibe. Go read Volume One. Seriously.
If you're unfamiliar with The Authority, they're essentially a radical reimagining of the superhero team concept. Imagine the Justice League if they had completely lost patience with politics, red tape, and moral ambiguity so they take matters into their own hands, fighting corrupt regimes and intervening in global crises with zero hesitation. It's a series that blends large-scale spectacle with a sharp edge. If you enjoy the provocative bite of The Boys but with a bit more idealism or the high-concept of Planetary, you’ll feel right at home. Think of it as the Justice League by way of punk rock and unapologetically confrontational.
Now with this Book Two omnibus dropping…I’m in deep.
And can we all take a second to celebrate when publishers actually continue lines instead of just publishing the big-hits? I love it so much. It gives me faith. Let me decide if this is good or not, you know…
Movie or not (since Gunn said that one’s slow on the back burner), the more Wildstorm I read, the more I get why longtime fans yell about this stuff. Sure, some of it’s messy and some of it’s very of its time but honestly? What I’ve read so far is more good than bad. Way more.
So yeah. Thanks, FOC gods. I needed this one.

More DC?
This week, we also have some of the All-In minisseries being collected like Supergirl Universe End, collecting the back-issues of the Action Comics book. It's a very underrated Kara story that feels like a spiritual successor to Tom King's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow minus the heavy dialogues. We also get Metamorpho The Element Man by Al Ewing (somehow still a underrated author, even though he's a genius, check out Petar's incredible article on him) and Challengers Of The Unknown by Christopher Cantwell another guy that always fires some of the best underrated stuff out there (have you read his amazing Doctor Doom series?).
Nothing is more a sign that Mark Waid is behind the DC decision-making then the fact we get this much love for underrated franchises. And to be fair, that's how I prefer my DC anyway.

Dan Slott's Big Time era on Amazing Spider-Man starts being collected in the Modern Era Epic Collection line. So if you picked-up those Brand New Day omnis, this fits right after that. I do love Slott Spider-Man and this, along with Superior Spider-Man, is probably his best stuff.
