It's D.E.A.R. day soon!

D.E.A.R., short for "Drop Everything and Read," is a nationwide celebration held every April 12th in the United States. It was created to encourage people of all ages to make reading a daily priority and to rediscover the joy of getting lost in a good book or graphic novel ;)

And that, dear people, is something that actually deserves a national holiday! Don't you think so? What will you grab on D.E.A.R. day?

What GN is Team Walt recommending for D.E.A.R.?

Walt: I recommend all the Graphic Novels, because they're all awesome 🤩

Side note: 🙄🙄🙄

Cristian (aka Walt): Minor Arcana Vol. 1 the first trade by Jeff Lemire. I liked the first two issues (he really read them) and it has Vertigo style and Jeff Lemire said it will be more than 30-40 issues and because I need to read more graphic novels and...

Michael: 2120 by George Wylesol, which is basically a choose your own adventure videogame in paper form and it has multiple endings and you can continue to go back and reread/play it.

Don: East of West because it's Jonathan Hickman at his very best. It's set in a post apocalyptic setting, the scope is enormous, the time scale is massive and mythological elements are blended with old west style and tropes.

Eunoia: Kylooe by Little Thunder. The coloring is just amazing, it's lighthearted and it's just the kinda thing you need to escape nowadays.

Gloriana: Hobo Mom by Charles Forsman and Max de Radiguès. I just love how two literal dots as eyes can convey so many emotions. And if I may add a second one The Boy Wonder by Juni Ba. DC Black Label rarely disappoints and Juni Ba's style mixed in the DC landscape is perfect. And last quick one, sorry, Holy Roller by Andy Samberg and Rick Remender. Just check it out 🙊

Annika: Read Manga.

Side note: No one asked Annika.

Heiko: We Stand On Guard by Brian K. Vaughan. Even though it's set 100 years in the future where Canada is invaded by the United States of America, it fits the times.

Simone: My Badly Drawn Life by Gipi because he's the best Italian guy. He's very different and everything he does is good.

New Graphic Novel Deals aka “Not Your Average Bargain Bins”

You may have known them as our Bargain Bins... or maybe you didn’t. But we increasingly felt that the name doesn’t quite do them justice. We all know that dusty, longbox-in-a-corner feeling: digging through beat-up backstock in a newly-found comic store, hoping to strike gold (and usually finding… not gold). But that’s not what this is. Not even close.

Our new Graphic Novel Deals section currently holds over 1000 titles. It includes bangers like Department of Truth, Ice Cream Man, Monstress, and Brubaker & Phillips classics. That’s bestsellers, folks. That’s Team Walt favourites. Real graphic novel gold, and no dust (or damages) in sight.

And since we’re talking treasures: we’ve just added more than 80 Marvel Epic Collections to the mix. Some are already low on stock, but a fresh EPIC pallet is incoming. Heads up: Out-of-stock items marked as "pre-orders" are expected to restock by the end of the month.

They’ll be available at these prices at least until early May - after that, some will return to full price (yes, a little FOMO is justified). And because I can't help myself: here's (yet another) personal recommendation:

The Black Widow Modern Era Epic Collection Vol. 3: Chaos is a great standalone that is highly enjoyable.

It's also basically the only legal way for you to be able to read Black Widow by Edmondson and Noto nowadays. How good is it? The artwork by Noto alone was reason enough to make me buy it. And the story and writing let me devour it in one night. It's all about Natasha: remembering her past in the present to find a reason to make it to the future. The inescapable coldness, the unachievable path to redemption, the forceful repression of your heart's desire. You'll find all of that and even more in that Epic Collection.

How to? - Episode 1: Bankrupt yourself

Oweia, there are more than 300 Preos available in April? And lots of Graphic Novels too? Oh my, who could expect this much?

Should you get the Absolute Batman Vol. 1 in Trade or Hardcover? And why should you only get Absolute Batman and not Absolute Wonder Woman!? Should you go for that beautiful Bone Deluxe Slipcase Edition TP Part 01 The Valley? What the hell is MrBallen Presents: The Graphic Stories and why do these covers have such a unique aesthetic? And oh my God there is a new trade by Rick Remender?

A few final words

Did you know how my first boyfriend won me over? By giving me pirated episodes of Daredevil on a USB Stick back in 2015. And even though we weren't meant to be, Daredevil, comics and I were meant to be.

I made a pact with my younger self to never get the Daredevil Omnis because there were a lot of them and I might not have enough space and coins to get them. And I professionally avoided them for all the time I've been working at Walt's.

But around two weeks ago I broke that pact all thanks to another man, Petar. See Petar and Matheus are two awesome lovers of comics who write for our new Beyond The Panels Blog. A blog dedicated for all those of us who are needing inspiration and want to find what to read next, those who'd like to take a deep dive into characters and their most essential storylines or those who'd like to find out more about their newest favorite author.

And what did Petar do exactly? Well he showed me what I'm missing if I don't get those Daredevil Omnibus. After doing some quick maths and realizing that I'll never afford anything in this economy, I went on a hunt for all those Daredevil Omnibus. And I'm not even mad at Petar, I'm thankful!

Just saying, definitely check it out if you haven't yet. There will be at least two new articles every week.

Beyond The PanelHave a beautiful week and don't forget to D.E.A.R!
