Subscribing to this series was actually a no-brainer. Ed Brisson writing a story about a professional thief who decided to retire after a disastrous mishap. Even if it means living off the grid in a filthy trailer and washing plates and glasses in fourth-rate diners and bars to earn just enough for drinks and food.
Until one day he receives an unexpected visit from the past. Who asks him for something he can't refuse, one last heist.
And we all know how these "easy peasy one last heist" things go, right?
After the first issue, I can only say that I got everything I expected. And even more.
Ed Brisson just knows how to put movies on paper and from paper into the mind's eye. And when he's joined by a great artist like C. P. Smith, the film is already shot.
Because that's exactly what Sins of the Salton Sea is, a first-rate action flick. Hard-boiled, cinematic, exciting, snotty, surprising, brilliantly illustrated, and with so many dead bodies in the first issue that some series can't manage over the whole length.
And Ed Brisson wouldn't be Ed Brisson if he didn't provide enough reveals, suspense and unsolved issues to make you a little bit mad at the end of the last page that you now have to wait for the next issue.
I'm glad I didn't start right after it came out. So I don't have to be patient for quite so long.
First class entertainment.
