Hello, everyone!
I am glad to invite you to the first edition of our rebel newsletter...
What? You didnât subscribe to one? Oh. See, I am just kind of, sort of, very jealous of all my friends over at Waltâs and in Berlin who get to enjoy the cool events being thrown, like the Ortega + Fernandez event that transpired this weekend! I hear it was very crowded and totally not cool...
So, I decided that this newsletter is for all of us who donât get to suffer in that warehouse full of dusty books... just waiting to be picked up and read... or kept in plastic on the shelf, or boarded and bagged... Yeah, no, this newsletter is for us! (But also, if you do get to go, feel free to stay since itâs kind of for you too.)
Anyway, whatâs on FOC this week? Itâs something to make the Berliners shiver (as if anything can scare those people):
The Spectre by John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake Omnibus Vol. 2 HC
Ostrander and Mandrake didnât just create a great horror comic with The Spectre. Instead, they gave us one of the best books DC published in the â90s. The second omnibus continues where the first left off, giving us the rest of their deeply philosophical take on Jim Corrigan.
The book deals with topics of vengeance, morality, and humanity, all while remaining beautifully dark and atmospheric. If there is one book (well, two books) you need for your 2026 retro escapade, itâs this run!

The Complete Tales from the Crypt Archive HC
To stay on the topic of retro horror, nothing can beat the macabre charm and gruesome twists of the classic EC Comics. Tales from the Crypt is as old as time itself, starting in the 1950s, and this collection brings us seventy years of terror.
The book is both a time capsule and a presentation of how horror evolved through the years. If youâve seen previous Dark Horse books, you know that they can easily be used as doorstoppers. But I know Iâll enjoy creeping through its pages instead in October, just in time for Halloween!

Our rebellion shall encompass the manga lovers too, and therefore, I present to you a book even Junji Ito is a fan of! While Lovecraftâs works can be very iffy, Iâve had a blast enjoying different adaptations or elements of the mythology (Arkham Horror LCG crew, rise up!).
This volume gives us a chilling adaptation of his classic tale, rendered in Tanabeâs intricate artwork. It is deliciously disturbed, and manga fans already know how great Dark Horse deluxe editions are!

Assorted Crisis Events TP Vol. 02
Finally, hereâs a dose of modern existential horror in Assorted Crisis Events. I am aware that this book is more of a traditional sci-fi anthology, but I do think that there is something inherently scary about time being âwrong.â
The stories here are trippy yet deeply human and showcase why the duo has been repeatedly nominated for Eisner Awards this year. If you havenât already grabbed the first volume, make sure to do so, and preorder this one while youâre at it!
