We gather here to appreciate balance…
|
|
…the books that don’t take up much space on your precious shelves yet can be just as beautiful and important as your average Omni. These are the titles that come in a more digestible size, you get everything you need in just 200 pages or so; a quick adventure, in and out.
And just like last month, there are some real gems here! Something for everyone, whether you’re into superheroes, indie comics, or even caught up in the current Micro-Lines hype (trust me, you’ll want to check out our next Fanzine).

The best recommendations I get always come from my fellow comics enthusiasts at Walt’s, so let’s take a quick look at what the staff is recommending this month.

Peaceful Remission
Nkondo’s work for Scavengers Reign impressively illustrates how great science fiction can excite and unsettle in equal measure. I can’t wait to see what emotional voyage this new book takes us on
|
Comet Club
Yang’s art instils the sense of wonder one feels about new things. With the simplicity of a true storyteller.

Invisible Kingdom Omnibus
In a sea of new, amazing graphic novels, it’s still the only one I have eyes for. I’d choose it every time.
|
Rorschach
Fantastic modern noir set in the world of post-Watchmen. Explores themes of isolation, radicalization, legacy and above all else: the subjectivity of truth. One of King’s best works!

THE RETURN OF KING VERTIGO
|
|
I have to say, I never imagined I’d see Vertigo Comics return, and certainly not on this kind of ambitious, epic scale. It feels like DC is finally putting creators first, which is honestly overdue.
The shift is a direct result of the Absolute line’s success; it proved readers care about vision, not just legacy. What excites me even more is that, unlike Absolute’s safe, veteran-heavy launch, Vertigo is coming back with truly new and young voices at the helm.

Bleeding Hearts
Deniz Camp has made his mark in comics by reinventing himself with every project.

Peril of the Brutal Dark
After four arcs of That Texas Blood, Chris Condon and Jacob Philips are so in sync, they’re clearly ready for bigger challenges. This book feels like the perfect next step for a creative team that’s at home delivering the pulpiest of pulp.

Since the DC Finest line launched, I’ve felt it’s always been a bit underrated.
Sure, it’s DC’s answer to Marvel’s Epic Collection, but it also does its own thing: spotlighting iconic and classic storylines instead of just churning out chronological filler.
That’s why we’ve been getting long out of print gems like Kirby’s Demon, Deadman, Plastic Man, and Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters. The sheer number of releases this month proves DC’s strategy is paying off; there’s a real, loyal audience here.
Honestly, I’d call this DC’s best-curated line. Even if the selections seem random at first, there’s a method: reviving legendary stories that truly deserve the spotlight.

THAT’S IT FOLKS!
Lastly, let me share a secret with you: I like my comics handy and compact. As much as I love Omnis, the graphic novel is still my favorite format for reading comics.
So if you feel the same way, be sure to come back next month for the next installment of “Tomás hypes up Graphic Novels because they don’t crush him when he takes them off the shelf!”
All the best, and a nice week of reading!
