On we go with the Blood Hunt, this time with the Red Band edition, since I am totally appropriate audience.
The little collector in me just didn’t have the heart to tear off the foil on issue #1 and therefore made do with the PG version.
But the little collector in me now keeps his mouth shut and is happy too that we entered the Blood Code for the Blood Mode to watch Pepe Larraz spreading guts and body fluids.
After the big, baffling reveal at the end of the first chapter, Blood Hunt #2 is more of a alignment issue. In which the balance of good and evil power is restored.
The element of surprise has also passed for our Marvel heroes, they have gathered together and analyzed the weak points in the ranks of the Bloodcoven.
But that doesn’t mean that everything will be fine now, because the next threat from within the forces‘ own ranks has already floated in...
My unexpected enthusiasm for Blood Hunt continues also after this second issue.
While reading it, you can tell that a few pieces of the pie are missing, because apart from Blood Hunters #1, I haven’t read anything else from the checklist (yet), but Jed MacKay still delivers a solid story that can stand on its own. It feels a little more airy, more fragmented, but remains exciting and fast-paced.
But even if the story was total crap (which it definitely wasn’t, just need to emphasize this again!), the stunning artwork by Pepe Larraz and colorist Marte Gracia alone would justify the purchase of this issue.
Btw., Marvel’s strategy of the two versions, gory and for adults vs. bloodless and PG, almost works. Because I already feel a bit of an urge to read the splatter-free version as well as the gore version. But I will resist, because I am a strong individual. I will not give in. Seriously. I will stay resistant. I can, I will...
