One FOC recommendation for this week
Okay.
Upper management cut my FOC Newsletter this month.
“It’s for the greater good,” they said.
“Fine. But let me talk about this book,” I replied.
So here we are.
I did it. I broke through.
My one-shot FOC Newsletter.
For you.
If you’ve read any of my past newsletters, you already know I have a soft spot for stories with a “What if” heart. I can’t help it.
It’s one of my favorite playgrounds for imagination and creativity—irresistible every time.
And among these alternate worlds?
I’ve found some of my all-time favorite Marvel and DC stories.
So how could I not recommend this book?

The Dark Knight reimagined across worlds that never were and futures that may yet come. Step into the shadows of alternate realities where Gotham’s protector is reborn again and again in twisted, wondrous, and unexpected forms. Elseworlds: Batman Omnibus Vol. 1 collects… read more
This beast collects many of Batman’s earliest Elseworlds stories—most of them hard to track down today, and many that built the foundation for this entire universe.
Need examples?
Start with the first—and probably most famous—of them all: Gotham by Gaslight.
Brian Augustyn imagines a nineteenth-century Gotham where Bruce Wayne faces Jack the Ripper.
A simple premise, sure—but Mike Mignola’s atmospheric art unleashes the full potential of the story. His style is perfect for the dark, gothic tone. A feast for the eyes.
But maybe even more impressive is Batman & Dracula: Red Rain by Doug Moench and Kelley Jones.
Seriously, look up their concept art for Vampire Batman and you’ll understand immediately.
There’s something unsettling in the way they twist the Dark Knight’s features… and yet something magnetic too.
It’s over the top in every way—and that’s exactly why it works so well.
There’s no better way to experience the stories that shaped this entire alternate reality.
This Omnibus deserves your attention.
I fought for this tiny bit of newsletter space just to talk about this book.
Now it’s your turn.
Ciao,
Simone
