Okay, please let's just not talk about Harley's Knight Terrors anymore. Let's just wrap it in a pink cloth of silence and devote ourselves to this wonderful piece of comics, the return to the ongoing daily grind with Harley Quinn #32.
So Harley is now awake again. And back home. Which somehow is also getting more and more crowded, with now very talkative hyenas, Janet from the closet, and of course the wonderful Ivy. But Harley's chaos house idyll does not last long. One groovy night to be exact.
Because once again there are multiversal duties. So it's off to Lady Quark in Warworld, in luggage her community college sophomores.
I'll stop here with the summary, since every page turned offers two new wacky adventures.
And I love it.
Tini Howard and Sweeney Boo actually manage to tell a story in Saturday morning cartoon speed that is gripping and not a bit overwhelming in its clutter.
The dialogues, especially Harley's situational comments, are hilarious. Boo's colorful fever dream is fantastic to look at and once you get used to it a delight for the eyes. And the ideas on both sides feel like an ongoing brainstorm repartee.
And I wonder why I - someone who has a soft spot for rather moderate, mellow stories with depth - am not stressed by all this, but rather entertained in a first-class way.
I don't know, and I don't need to know.
But one thing I do know is that this Harley is one of the coolest I've had the pleasure of reading.
Oh yes, the backstory "High Stakes" by Sam Maggs, with great illustrations (as usual) by Kelley Jones, bronze-agely colored by José Villarrubia, was a blast, too. Sympathetically senseless and wildly entertaining.
Plus, Jenny Frison nailed this cover again.
Great issue.
