Love is cute, love is sweet, and love is painful when you experience it yourself. I guess we all know that... Alas, my guess was wrong because for tweens Lola and Grace, love is a mystery that can last up to seven days or more if you're lucky. And what do you do when you encounter a mystery? You do research. This is what they do in BeKa & Maya's "The Love Report."
With that being said, Lola and Grace only talk about one kind of love, and it is the romantic one. Because what are tweens thinking of day and night except for love? What other problems could they possibly have?
As it turns out, tweens have more problems than just the romantic ones. And the story really takes its sweet time to hit these tweens with reality.
"The Love Report" offers interesting characters, tackles important and serious issues, but doesn't forget to be understandable and entertaining for its target audience. Just like there is more to a comic than its cover, there is more to these characters' lives and stories than only romantic love.
I really enjoyed this one, also because I am a big fan of the artist's style. I actually caught myself smiling when I found out that there is going to be a second volume of "The Love Report" because it made me want to know more about these little people's lives.
Before I finish this, I'll offer a powerful quote that can be turned into a tattoo on your left shoulder (you know the one that is on your heart's side 😉):
"Love: It's never how we think it will be. It's more forceful and crazier than anything. Love is totally destructive. But it would be very sad to deprive yourself of it."
